Industry Equals: Women in Screen

Industry Equals: Women in Screen’ event

Creative England BannerREEL SOUL MOVIES CEO Shelley Williams was recently selected by CREATIVE ENGLAND as one of ten female leaders at the forefront of storytelling in moving image across film, television, games and digital for INDUSTRY EQUALS: WOMEN IN SCREEN 2019-2020.  The residential weekend held in Warwick comprised of workshops and talks given by industry experts including Kanya King MBE, MOBO Founder and Caroline Percy, Senior Portfolio Manager for Channel 4 Indie Growth Fund. All the women selected are looking to create future opportunities for business growth, scale their businesses up to the next level and build meaningful connections and a network of support.

INDUSTRY EQUALS: WOMEN IN SCREEN was designed as a response to recent studies that show the numbers of female-led companies are on the rise, yet women in business are still at a disadvantage to their male counterparts. The Rose Review released earlier this year, found that only one in three UK entrepreneurs is female – a gender gap equivalent to 1.1 million missing businesses. The Annual ScreenSkills Assessment found that while approximately 211,000 professionals work in the screen industries, women are under-represented across the sector.

Reel Soul Movies CEO, Shelley Williams says, ‘Thank you to Creative England for the fantastic INDUSTRY EQUALS programme and to all the inspirational speakers, coaches and the other women who took part. I can’t wait to see what this talented bunch of women create in the future!
